(Paris 1670–1747 Saint-Germain-en-Laye) Still life of flowers in a glass vase placed on a stone pedestal, oil on canvas, 71.1 x 91.5 cm, framed,
We are grateful to Claudia Salvi, who has identified the present painting as an important work by Antoine Monnoyer (certificate of 30 Nov. 2009). Antoine Monnoyer travelled to England several times in the company of his father, where he became one of the most successful still life painters of his time; his works embellished the interiors of many London town houses during the artist‘s lifetime. Documents prove journeys undertaken to Italy and Sweden (for the decoration of the Royal Palace in Stockholm). Monnoyer developed further the type of stately still life that had been established by his father in Versailles, influenced by artists such as Simon Hardimé.
